Healthy Moms Healthy Kids

The 2 Week Challenge is officially over. Although I didn’t lose any inches, I did gain 2 lbs… I know it could be water weight, but it still doesn’t feel good to see that number on the scale. I guess my problem is, I’ve already been in a funk. With our new crazy life schedule, I feel like I’m drowning in my day to day. So, needless to say, this hasn’t helped my mood. A good thing is I’m not eating like crazy, I’m just not feeling motivated to work out. Which is another new problem created by this life change, my gym time is nonexistent. I will have to force myself to use my Wii more to make up for it.

I did have a proud mommy moment, which ties into the theme of teaching healthy habits to kids. We were at a birthday party, and I made my daughter a plate. I put veggies with dip, a few tortilla chips, and a half of a cookie on it. I didn’t say anything, just here you go baby. I walked off to talk to my friend and looked back. My amazing girl was eating her veggies FIRST. Later on, I told her I loved how she ate her veggies first. She told me, “well the others looked like dessert and I don’t eat those first.” So proud of my girl!

This weeks blogging carnival question: What is one health lesson you want to teach your kids?

The best lessons for children are caught not taught. You can say all you want to them about healthy choices, eating veggies and fruits over candy, etc. But if you aren’t living the life yourself, you are just wasting your breath. I walk the walk and talk the talk. And that’s why moments above really make me happy, it shows I’m doing something right!!

  1. What a great reason to smile! I love when my kiddos do something healthy for themselves like that was the only choice. Good job Mama.

    Shake that funk! I have had my own for a while and am working on playing more find your own balance and feeling more organized, rested, etc. might help you let go of any stress weight you are carrying around. Keep it up! The work you are doing is making you healthier.

  2. I love that your daughter ate her veggies first!!! I STILL have to remind my boys from time to time… Don’t worry too much about the number on the scale… it’s easier said than done, I KNOW… but at the end of the day, it’s only ONE measurement… focus on the things you CAN control and everything else will fall into place :)

    WOO! Amen, sister – leading by example is such an important “teaching” tool- it’s a great way to not only show the way, but to prove positive results.

    Keep up the good work, and don’t be discouraged by the scale – just keep up all the good things, forgive yourself for the bad, and keep moving. You’re doing great work!

    Wow! That’s awesome about your daughter!! My son would have eaten the cookie and chips and left the veggies on the plate. LOL.

  6. Losing weight can be frustrating. No joke. But at the end of the day, when you make lifestyle changes, your body WILL change. Some bodies are slower than others. But we will be here to cheer you on dear. XXOO
