Mamavation Monday- Working Out at Home

First off, I am THANKFUL that we were not one of the 100,000s who lost power during that psycho storm on Friday. Our power flickered, went out for a second, and dimmed but it never went out. After the adventures in no AC last weekend I was praying we wouldn’t have to go through a repeat!

The 2 Week Challenge starts today and I am pumped. It goes so well with the topic for Mamavation TV this week: working out at home. If you haven’t signed up yet to participate DO IT! They have beginner and advanced workouts, something for every level of fitness.

Working out at home is difficult for me. When I have the 2 Week Challenge to focus on I do very well, but once it is over eh not so much. I am one of those people who love to workout in a group setting. Exercising with my friends is something I look forward to each week. Unfortunately, during this season of life (which is hopefully ending in September!), I have not been able to go to the gym. I tried psyching myself up, downloaded a bunch of zumba songs, and got to shaking it one night after bedtime. My heart wasn’t in it, and I found myself getting bored. So I can’t really give any advice about working out at home because I don’t even do it myself.  *shame face*

That is not to say I don’t want to be better I just don’t know how to get past the mental roadblock. Then I saw this on Healthy Jasmine’s Facebook Page this morning and loved it: The hardest thing about exercise is to start doing it. Once you are doing exercise regularly, the hardest thing is to stop it. – Erin Gray

So true! Before I became a gym rat I use to think people who go to the gym all the time are a bit excessive and they must get bored! Then I started on a regular routine with a friend and started to enjoy it, even if only for the conversation. Then I found Zumba and my workout routine and attitude changed. That was my niche for sure, I loved it and going to the gym was something I looked forward to and did not want to ever stop! I don’t think I will ever find the same enjoyment at home, but I know that if I push myself to get into a routine that sooner or later it will be less of a chore and more of something I want to do.

What do you like to do when working out at home?

I know what you mean. I do much better if I go to the gym, then when I am home. For home though, I like doing Zumba on the Xbox or just circuits.

I’m with you – it’s hard for me to get into a home workout. I have EA Sports Active 2 that goes along with my XBox Kinect, but I will do it a few days then stop because I just don’t push myself at home. I love going to the gym, though, and it makes my afternoon so much better after I sweat it out!

I’m with you, it’s hard for me to work out at home…my problem is a one-year-old that doesn’t let me have time to myself to do the workouts or when I have the time I don’t have the time because of other commitments (blogging, shopping, house work). Good luck to you!

  4. Good luck with the #2WeekChallenge! I can’t wait to see how much changes between now and the end of the challenge for me!

I am with you, I have a hard time getting workouts in at home. I have to get to the gym to get a good one in. I am trying to change that by doing pilates, yoga & the #2WeekChallenge at home.

I like keeping a variety of workouts to do at home otherwise I get bored :)

When I’m working out at home, my favorite thing is to stretch at the end. That sounds goofy, but I really do love the stretching part! ;) I also like that my daughter thinks I’m so cool. Hopefully, I’m setting a really healthy and solid example for her!

I know at home is hard, but sometimes with the wii you can make it fun.

Glad you were really not too affected by the storm. That thing seemed scary. I like how you are a gym rat now, getting started is the hardest/most intimidating thing.

  9. First of all, good for you on two levels. First of all, for taking the initiative to take care of yourself and secondly, to blog about it. To answer your question I also take time to stretch in order to stay flexible everyday. I often do this in front of the TV in the evening. I also make a point of safely dashing up and down the 31 stairs in my house to get the heart rate up. Burning calories and building muscle is essential but so is staying limber. I find this even more important the older I get.
