Mamavation Monday August Already

I cannot believe it is August already. Seriously, where did the summer go? I know this is so cliche and logically Sheldon would say it is impossible, but honestly time goes by faster and faster these days.

Now that it is August I am in full blown hit the panic button mode. My 3 year old son is signed up to start preschool at the end of this month (school starts for us on Aug 27th). He has to be potty trained and it’s going ehhhhh. He is just not as easy as my daughter.

Anyone have any tried and true potty training tips for me? I am clueless when it comes to boys!

Good news is I finally have an end date to this new “life schedule” we have been on since March. Looks like I can finally rejoin my gym friends in September and for that I am excited! Thinking back at my goals for weight loss, I have seriously fallen short of where I wanted to be by this time. I can blame the schedule change or I could have put on my big girl panties. Yes, I said it, I could have womaned up and worked out more at home. But I didn’t and now I have to love with the fact it will now take longer to get where I wanted to go.

Actions have consequences.

  1. Oh Sheldon! [love him!]

YAY for being able to go back to the gym!! You will get back on track! :)

Wish I could give you some potty training tips but we are still working on potty training Aiden, so I am no expert :) The girls were much easier lol. I know what I am doing & whats going on with girls, boys need to come with a manual lol.

    Have a great week!

    • Ashley says:

haha yes a manual would be fantastic!!! My daughter didn’t like being dirty, she was potty trained at 18months…this boy I swear loves being dirty..crazy!

  2. My son is 3 and he will go to pre-school in diaper. He is not willing to make his potty training official and I am not forcing him. I liked a lot of good DVDs with my daughter – like Elmo Potty time and Huggies potty DVD is fun

    • Ashley says:

I don’t want to force him, he wants to go but he won’t just go on his own. I have to tell him to. Unfortunately they won’t accept him in the 3yr old class without being potty trained.

I forgot about Elmo’s potty dvd, we have that maybe I should pull it out. He does like elmo

  3. So, I hope you get your son potty trained easier and sooner rather than later based on the tips moms share.

While I do have 3 and 2 are grown, I can’t recall a thing. I think they trained themselves.

As for my CJ, he’s 11 and still not trained. Lord knows when that will happen with his needs.

  4. Pepper says:

Google the 3 day potty training system. That’s what worked for my first son. Now my second son it has been a battle, and I just don’t think anything motivates him. LOL

  5. Like Pepper mentioned already, the 3-day potty training is something that I’ve heard is successful. My SIL trained her two daughters successfully with it, and I’m planning on using it when C’s that age. Good luck!

  6. Pam Gordon says:

How about a small treat every time he succeeds in going potty :)

  7. Lydia says:

Oh man. I have NO ideas for little boys. My daughter was pretty easy. Good luck!!

  8. Kia says:

Good luck with the potty training. For my son the diapers are crutch, he uses the potty when they are not on so he is mostly trained an running around in tighty whities.

  9. i hear ya on time does fly fast lately.. as for tips on potty training have you tired to put cheerios in the toilet bowl for him to aim at? My son nathan did it that way and learned. hope that helps. have a great week.

  10. Ashley says:

Right now I have him sitting to go potty not standing, one battle at a time lol

He gets a sticker or a stamp when he goes. We stopped using diapers, bought pullups, and even took down the changing table.

I’ll give the 3 day method a look and maybe try it next week when I know I can be home 3 days in a row! Thanks for the tips ladies!

My daughter loved the Elmo Potty TIme vhs..good lord we watched it so many times. My husband swears by cheerios for target practice and MMs(or Unreal MMs which we know are non-GMO 😛 ) as a reward! He’ll get it! Just stick with it mama!

  12. Like Spice up described already, the 3-day toilet exercising is something that I’ve observed is effective. My SIL qualified her two children efficiently with it, and I’m preparing on using it when C’s that age. Excellent luck!

  13. Sounds like you have a great plan for yourself and WTG with the gym!

As for your son and potty training. This is what worked for us. An egg timer. Set it for 1 hour and when it goes off send him to the potty, even if he doesn’t have to go. Then reset and repeat. Our son had the hardest time until we started doing that, within a few days he was going on his own. BUT his problem was that he didn’t want to stop doing what he was doing (playing) to go potty..he knew how to just didn’t want to interrupt play.
