After an amazing, record breaking year in the box office, the Walt Disney Studios is coming in strong for 2017. Some of my most anticipated films will be making their way onto the screen like Pirates of the Caribbean, Guardians of the Galaxy, and of course Star Wars! Here is the official 2017 Walt Disney Studios movie lineup!
Beauty and the Beast – March 17, 2017
This tale as old as time is almost here! As a big fan of the original I cannot wait to see this on the big screen. It looks absolutely stunning. But don’t take my word for it, just watch the trailer! You can read more about the movie and see some awesome images here.
Born in China – April 21, 2017
The newest Disneynature film is narrated by John Krasinski. Take an epic journey into the wilds of China where few people have ever ventured. A doting panda bear mother guides her growing baby as she begins to explore and seek independence. A two-year-old golden monkey who feels displaced by his new baby sister joins up with a group of free-spirited outcasts. And a mother snow leopard—an elusive animal rarely caught on camera—faces the very real drama of raising her two cubs in one of the harshest and most unforgiving environments on the planet.
I’m excited about the snow leopard footage. Big cats are some of my most favorite animals and they aren’t kidding when they say this cat is elusive!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – May 5, 2017
Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Did I mention Kurt Russell is in this one! Ah!
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – May 26, 2017
Captain Jack is feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle and are bent on killing every pirate at sea. Including him. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with two unlikely mates. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced.
Cars 3 – June 16, 2017
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017
Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!
Maybe now we will know why these two heavy weights were;t around picking sides in Civil War. Although I think they would both choose #TeamCap but I’m a little bias. Could this be where Planet Hulk gets introduced? I don’t know but I’m excited to see what happens!
Coco – November 22, 2017
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
Star Wars: Episode VIII – December 15, 2017
No details yet, not that I expected there to be any. I did read that Carrie Fisher had finished filming her parts for this movie. But with her passing they are meeting to decide how to proceed with the movies. I, like everyone else, was truly saddened by her death. She was an amazing woman and a role model for so many, including me. I only hope that our Princess, our General, is at peace.
Which one is on your must see list this year?
After seeing the special sneak peek I was counting the days to the premiere. If one scene could absorb the audience that much, the entire movie had to be amazing. I was not disappointed.
To start this review, I’m going with my initial reaction after the screening;

Guardians of the Galaxy delivers in every way possible. Storyline, climax, action, character depth, visuals, you name it this movie has it! From start to finish you are immersed in their world and you don’t want to get off that ride. This movie is not like your other superhero movies. The characters themselves are completely different from your grade A good guys. These guys and girl are not good guys, at least not in the traditional sense. They are misfits, who do bad things but like all of us they have redemptive qualities hidden somewhere inside them. When devastation is imminent and hope is lost, the Guardians step up and do the right thing even at the expense of their own lives.
For anyone who thinks Rocket is a random character 1. you do not know your comics and 2. He isn’t some cute and cuddly side kick. Rocket is a tough as nails, sarcastic, and at some points even lovable furry raccoon. He can’t help what he was made to be but he can sure take out a room full of guards without blinking an eye.
Peter Quill, aka StarLord, is the leader of the Guardians. He is a thief and this orb is his latest prize. It reminds me of Indiana Jones because I was thinking don’t touch it! They never listen. So he grabs it, but he’s not the only one who wants it. What is this thing and why is it so interesting? Oh just something that may or may not wipe out the entire galaxy.
Groot, the tree guy, may only say I AM GROOT, but you get his point. Amidst the destruction and doom, he finds a way to make everything beautiful. He is also extremely loyal, selfless, and has a tendency to jump to the end of the plan.
Drax and Gamora round out the rag tag team. She is a trained assassin groomed by Thanos to be an elite killing machine. Drax is a maniac who takes everything literally. With a team like this what could go wrong?
Ronin is as bad as a bad guy can be. He is a self proclaimed judge, jury, and executioner and if you’re wondering, everyone is guilty. Ronin has a powerful ally you might recognize from Avengers and I don’t mean Loki. Ronin has struck a deal with Thanos to take out Xandar once and for all. That is what our Guardians are up against- no problem right?
It wouldn’t be Marvel without comedic relief. Sometimes you need a prosthetic leg for a plan and sometimes you don’t.
I was brought back to the days of my walkman with this. Making mix tapes was pretty much the coolest thing a kid could do. Not only does Peter’s provide a great soundtrack to the movie, but in true fashion a touching backstory with all the feels. I teared up and if you have a heart you will too tough guy!
In the end, they managed to come out of the chaos and almost assured decimation as heroes, a lot like Kevin Bacon.
As we have all come to expect there are end credit scenes. Not one but two. The first is near the beginning of the credits and is funny. The post credit scene features a character that hasn’t been seen in years. If you are watching carefully, and know your Marvel facts, you can catch a glimpse of him when the Guardians meet with the Collector. So keep your eyes open comic book nerds and then you can come talk to me about where we think Guardians will go from here!
Go see Guardians of the Galaxy in theaters now! You can thank me later.
On July 7th, select IMAX theaters showed off exclusive 17mins of footage from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
One word: WOW. Okay another word: AWESOME.
I already wanted to see this movie and now after watching it in IMAX 3D, sign me up for opening night! This is a superhero movie unlike other superhero movies. Yes the comedic one liners are there and the action is insane. But where else will you find a raccoon who
might have has some anger issues and a giant tree that can kick some serious butt?
The footage showed our unlikely heroes when they were arrested and thrown into a maximum security prison. They can’t stay in prison, what kind of movie would that be? Rocket has a plan which should be followed step by step. Should. Things go a bit awry and we get to see each of these characters showing off what they do best. Not to mention the laughs, Ooohs, and heck yeah moments!
The planet, future, our galaxy is in danger. But don’t worry Peter has a plan, it’s only 12% of a plan but as Groot points out that’s better than 11%.

On August 1st a new team of heroes are coming to theaters: Guardians of the Galaxy! This isn’t just another super hero movie, this is an epic adventure set in the cosmos. It’s got action, comedy, and of course kicking butt and taking names. You’re welcome.
In Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy we meet the rough around the edges adventurer Peter Quill who finds himself the center of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb. The evil, powerful Ronan has ambitions that threaten the entire universe and he needs the orb to make them a reality. In order to evade Ronan and stay alive, Quill is forced to make a truce with a quartet of misfits like himself. The Guardians consist of Quill, Rocket, a gun toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora, and the revenge driven Drax the Destroyer. When the true power of the orb is discovered and the danger it poses to the universe, Quill must do his best to rally his crew for a last, desperate stand.
