Last year I was all set to write a post with my word of the year. It seemed like a simple idea. But when I sat down to hash it out, I got nothing. No inspiration. Nothing jumped out at me. And there it sat in my draft folder. Spoiler: it is still there. I think it was because I was going through a lot at the tail end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016 in my personal life. I lost my grandmother, I was becoming increasingly more ill with no idea what was happening, and then finally surgery. It was my gallbladder that was causing the issues, but that will be shared in another post. Fast forward through an up and down 2016 and here we are. This year, I was determined to have my word for 2017. And after a lot of thought I’ve got it.
I don’t mean to sound ethereal with that. And before you dismiss it as happy go lucky let me explain why I chose it. It’s not some meaningless word to me. Believe to me signifies my life. Despite the struggles, despite the low times I was always told to believe in myself. My grandmother believed in me, even when I didn’t. And I lost sight of that when I lost her.
“We are what we believe we are.” C. S. Lewis
Through my family, friends, and some serious soul searching I finally started to get back that belief in myself. It wasn’t easy, but nothing worth having ever is. I’m thankful for the amazing people that God put in my life this past year and the reawakening of the fire within. The fire that will see these desires come to fruition. Follow me for all the excitement of 2017!

So I challenge you to go out there and believe in yourself and your dreams. Connect with me on social media if you are looking for someone to cheerlead for you. I believe in you!
