New Years Eve 2013 Looking Forward

Oh hey there 2014. I could say something cliché like, can you believe it’s New Years Eve? But I won’t. I mean I am like woah it’s the end of a crazy year for me but I am looking forward to the New Year.

I don’t know about you but I am not the one who makes resolutions.  Every year I hear people say these are my resolutions or they make a list of goals. And more than likely they do not follow through. I think people think of resolutions as something that they should do because everyone else is, but without an actual plan it’s just words.

That is one reason I am excited to welcome back to my blog, Mamavation Monday/Mighty Mom Monday.  A weekly post about fitness and healthy living with other bloggers that I know. This will help me get and stay on track with my ongoing goals.

First order of business in 2014 is getting back on a consistent….I’ll say that again CONSISTENT gym schedule. Twice a week Zumba, and 3 days a week running. To help force me to run again, I am signing up for another Color Me Rad race. It was so much fun last time I did it that I cannot wait to do it again. Since I am so far off my running game, seriously I was doing 3 miles in under 30 mins ugh!, it looks like I will be restarting the Couch to 5K app for the race.

Nutritionally, I have been doing a lot better. Still buying organic, nongmo products and working on doing a makeover of my household products. It is a daunting task to think about how much stuff in your home is actually terrible, but slowly but surely I will make my home and life as green as possible. That’s to say without living in a BPA/BPS free bubble breathing filtered air.

Mighty Mom Monday: I’m Still Here

You may have been wondering where I’ve been. Or maybe not, I have been writing, tweeting, so I didn’t disappear completely. Still, I haven’t written about being a Mighty Mom in awhile. Does that mean I have been doing super awesome and was just too mighty to stop and write about it? Hah! Nope. Just the opposite in fact. Ever since I went to Disney World I have not been exercising. I walked a million miles and ate to my hearts content. Seriously, Disney’s buffets are amazing. Then I came home and everyone got sick. So for the last few weeks we have been battling sickness, trying to catch up on life, and just being lazy.

Finally, I decided enough was enough and got off my butt and went for a run last weekend. It was my first in MONTHS. After bundling up, making a new playlists, and stretching (we all know what happens when you don’t!) I hit the trail. Despite having been the equivalent of a couch potato I was proud of what I accomplished. 2.07 miles is not too shabby! I ran again a few days later and kept up the momentum!

I can tell I was getting to that point of no return. That point when sitting on the couch doing nothing or eating whatever (organic of course but organic sweets will still make you fat!) becomes too comfortable. The bad cycle of self loathing starts and you hate what you’ve lost but get in a pit of not doing anything to change it.

Screw that! I refuse to succumb to that again and so I am picking up where I left out and going to the gym 2x a week. I am also running again so I can continue training for that eventual half marathon I want to run. It’s nice to see others completing goals and persevering. It really does help motivate me to see others not being bums. I hope you have friends you can look to when you need some extra encouragement!

Now that it’s getting cold outside everyone needs a little more oomph, gumption to get moving. My advice is to have others you work out with. It’s a lot harder to flake on a workout when other people are waiting for you.

So that’s my story. My truth. I haven’t been practicing what I preach err type but I will get back there. It’s just going to take some time and taking control of those thoughts that try to deter me from working out.

Mamavation Monday: Stretching IS Important

Stretching. Is. Important.

Of course it is important who doesn’t know that? Can I just say, you can know something but not do it? That whole head knowledge vs heart knowledge and practice what you preach thing. So yes DUH I know that stretching is a must before and after every workout. But halfheartedly stretching while talking to your friends is not really accomplishing anything. And if you aren’t a teenager anymore your body probably needs to stretch so you don’t hurt yourself. Why yes I am speaking from experience.

Last Monday my favorite instructor taught a double Zumba class. He had asked if his regulars would be there for both hours and my friends were like YES! I was like um sure I guess… Not that I don’t love his class but it is hard. 2 hours of torture? But peer pressure can be a good thing. Short story long, we went, I didn’t really stretch, and now my hip muscle is sore. Like when I stand up from sitting for long periods of time ouch *limp limp*

Moral of the story: Stretch properly before working out. Or end up walking like an old woman when you’re only in your twenties.

In other fitness news: I will be at the gym tonight for Zumba (properly stretching before it starts!) and tonight on Mamavation TV we are chatting about indoor air quality. Happy Monday! Yeah I’m not that excited either. I was in the beautiful Emerald Isle for the last 4 days so readjusting to non-beach life is rough. The sound and the beach were beautiful, I met some really nice people, and fell in love with a local business The Irish Pirate Trading Company and Pub. In fact I will be writing all about them soon! So getting off island time and back to the grind has been hard.

I wish I could say I was extremely healthy on the trip and that I exercised daily. But that would be a lie. We did do a lot of walking, around the shopping areas and on the beach. I also did my planks before bed but that is about it. As far as food goes, I was at the mercy of what was available and what was cooked. I could have done a lot worse believe me! And I may have had a few glasses of wine but if I did I was on vacation….just saying

Not only do I need to get back to the grind of work, mom life I need to get myself back into working out. Although I am beyond exhausted I will drag myself to the gym tonight. Promise.
